Where the coverage figure actually comes from
Manufacturer coverage rates, usually quoted in square metres per litre, are based on a smooth, properly prepared, moderately absorbent surface, and real substrates rarely match that exactly. Textured render, bare new plaster or previously unpainted timber will all use noticeably more material than the headline figure suggests, and a set-out that ignores this runs short partway through the job.
- Manufacturer figures treated as a starting point, not a fixed answer
- Substrate porosity assessed before finalising the material order
- Texture and profile factored in separately from flat area
