Church interiors combine everything that makes decorating difficult: great height, old and often damp fabric, limited money and a building that has to be usable on Sunday. The right answer usually involves doing less, more carefully.

- Why can't we just use ordinary emulsion?
- On lime plaster it traps moisture. The paint may look fine while the plaster behind it fails. Breathable systems cost more and last far longer on this fabric.
- Is scaffolding always necessary?
- For nave and chancel height, usually yes. It is worth doing all the high-level work in one hit while it is up.
- Can the church stay open?
- Generally yes, in sections. We will agree with you which areas must be clear for which services.
Breathable fabric and damp history
Solid walls with lime plaster need a coating that lets moisture move. Sealing a damp church with a modern impermeable emulsion pushes the problem sideways and blows the plaster somewhere else within a couple of winters.

Access at height
Nave walls and vaulted ceilings need proper internal access. Scaffold or tower hire is frequently the largest single line in a church quote, which is why grouping the high-level work into one visit matters so much.

Weddings, funerals and Sunday worship do not move. We plan around the diary, keep the building safe and presentable between working days, and can strike access equipment for a service if that is what the week needs.
