A corridor being painted is still a corridor people need to walk through. Protecting access routes means keeping them safe and passable throughout the work, not just tidying up once the job is finished.
Floor protection on a shared route is taped and fixed down rather than laid loose, because a curling dust sheet on a stairwell is a trip hazard waiting to happen. Wet-paint signage is placed at both ends of any affected section, not just the one facing the working crew.
