The handover that matters

Before starting work on scaffold we have not erected ourselves, we walk it with whoever handed it over, checking boarding, ties and access points against what the elevation actually needs. Any gap — a missing board, a tie in the wrong place for our work — gets raised before paint goes anywhere near it.

• Handover inspection carried out before work begins each time
• Boarding checked against the specific tasks planned for that level
• Any defect reported to the scaffold contractor rather than worked around

Sharing the programme with the scaffold hire period

Scaffold hire is charged by the week, so our sequencing tries to make efficient use of every level while it is up — working top-down where drying times allow, and flagging early if weather is going to extend the period scaffold needs to stay in place.

Sharing access with other trades

Where roofers, render repairers or window fitters are using the same scaffold, we agree a rota for each level so nobody is spraying past someone else's open window or working beneath falling debris. This gets set out before work starts, not negotiated daily on site.
