Acoustic and specialist coverings
Some coverings add acoustic performance, hygiene properties or impact resistance that paint simply cannot deliver, which changes the comparison entirely.
Substrate preparation
Both need a flat, sound, correctly primed wall. Coverings hide minor texture, but they telegraph lumps and unsanded joints just as clearly as a mid-sheen paint.
