Preparing your home for the decorators
A little preparation on your side removes hours of ours. It also reduces the chance of anything valuable being near a wet edge or a sanding pole.
01Clear what you can
Ornaments, pictures, curtains and small furniture are quicker for you to move than for us to work around. Heavy items can stay and be moved centrally and covered.
02Fixtures and fittings
Tell us what you want removed and refitted — curtain poles, blinds, shelving and switch plates. Anything we take down is refitted at the end unless you say otherwise.
03Access, parking and pets
Somewhere to park close to the door saves a surprising amount of time on materials handling. Pets are best kept out of working rooms while wet coatings and open tins are around.
04Colours and decisions
Have colours confirmed before we start. Mid-job changes can mean extra coats and a knock-on to the programme.
Common questions
Do I need to empty the room completely?
No, but the more you clear the faster and cleaner the work goes.
Will you take down curtain poles?
Yes, and refit them once the paint has hardened enough.
Can I stay in the house during works?
Almost always, using low-odour systems and working room by room.
When do I need to pick colours?
Before the first day ideally, so materials are ordered correctly.
